How to pick a complete scooter

A complete is a scooter that arrives built and ready to ride, with every part chosen to work together. For a first real scooter that is exactly what you want: no compatibility puzzles, no wrong-size bars, and a price well under what the same parts cost separately. The two things that matter are the rider's size and where they will ride.

The ten-second size check

Scooter bars should land around the rider's belly button when they stand next to it on flat ground. Standing on the deck lifts them a few centimetres, so the bars end up between the beltline and belly button while riding, which is where control lives. If the bars are a touch tall, we can cut them down after you order. Our size guides list every complete we sell by height and age, and the one rule to remember is that street scooters run bigger than park scooters.

Park or street

Park scooters are smaller and lighter so they are easy to whip, spin and throw around in a bowl. Street scooters are bigger and heavier, built for rails, ledges and stairs, and riders stand taller on them. If the rider is under about twelve and mostly at the local skatepark, go park. If they are watching street clips and talking about rails, go street. The Root Type R and Envy Prodigy lines cover park; the NATIVE Stem and Format and the Envy Prodigy Street cover street.

What we recommend, and why

  • Root Industries Type R Pro. Our best-selling complete. Light, strong, and sized for most eight to thirteen year olds. The Type R Mini is the same scooter scaled down for five to eight year olds, and the Type R GT steps up for taller riders.
  • Envy Prodigy X One. The complete most parents compare the Type R against. A proven park scooter for nine to thirteen year olds, with the Prodigy Street X One for riders who want a bigger street setup.
  • Root Industries Invictus v3 and Air RS. Where to go once a rider is fourteen plus or already landing real tricks.
  • NATIVE Stem and Format. NATIVE is the street brand we are proudest to stock, built by street riders for street riders. Stock comes and goes, so if the size you want is listed as back in stock soon, the Format or a Root complete is the move today.
  • CORE, Grit, Crisp, Aztek and Tilt round out the range, from first scooters under $200 to premium signature builds.

Why buy a complete from Syndicate

Every scooter we sell is genuine, bought from the brand or its Australian distributor, and we price-check against Australian stores so you are not paying more here than anywhere else. Orders over $200 ship free in Australia and New Zealand, which covers almost every complete on this page. You have 90 days to return an unused scooter, and the people answering your messages ride these scooters themselves. If you want help choosing, send us the rider's height and age and we will point you at the right one.

Frequently asked questions

What size complete scooter does my child need?

Go by height first and age second. Stand the scooter next to the rider: the bars should sit around their belly button. Our size guides map every complete to a height range, roughly Type R Mini for 110 to 130cm, Type R Pro and Envy Prodigy X One for 130 to 160cm, Type R GT and Prodigy Street for 145 to 175cm, and Invictus or NATIVE Format for taller teens and adults. If they are between sizes and money is not the issue, the smaller scooter is easier to learn on.

What is the best complete scooter for a beginner?

For most kids starting out we recommend the Root Industries Type R Pro, or the Type R Mini for younger riders. It is light enough to learn tricks on, strong enough to survive learning them, and it is the scooter we sell more of than any other. The Envy Prodigy X One is the other safe pick at the same size.

What is the difference between a park scooter and a street scooter?

Park scooters are smaller, lighter and quicker to whip and spin, with the bars set a little lower. Street scooters are bigger and heavier with taller bars, built for grinding rails and ledges and jumping stairs. Street scooters run a size bigger than park scooters for the same rider, which is why our guides list them separately.

Are these real pro scooters or toy-shop scooters?

Real ones. Everything on this page is a genuine stunt scooter from the brand or its official Australian distributor, the same scooters you see at the skatepark. We do not sell department-store scooters.

Do complete scooters ship free?

Orders over $200 ship free anywhere in Australia and New Zealand, which covers almost every complete we sell. Under $200 it is a flat $15 in Australia.

Can you cut the bars down if they are too tall?

Yes. If the only thing wrong is the bars being a touch tall, ask us to cut them down after you place your order. We are happy to do it.

Which brands do you stock?

Root Industries, Envy, NATIVE, CORE, Grit, Crisp, Aztek, Tilt and more. Root and Envy keep stock all year, so they are the safest bet when you need a scooter by a certain date.

What if it is the wrong size when it arrives?

You have 90 days to return an unused scooter in its original packaging. Message us first and we will sort an exchange or refund.
