Scooter Clamps

Every clamp and compression system in one place: SCS, HIC and IHC. For most riders we recommend the Root Industries AIR SCS clamp, the simplest system there is at a verified best price, or a Root double clamp if you run HIC or IHC. Apex clamps, made in Australia, are the premium pick, and the NATIVE Orca range is what our own team runs. Not sure which system you have? Read our Scooter Clamp Guide or check the guide below.

SCS, HIC or IHC: which clamp do I need?

Your clamp holds the bars to the fork, and the system you run decides which bars and fork fit. There are three. SCS is a tall clamp that replaces the headset top cap and takes bars with no slit; it is the strongest and easiest to set up. HIC uses a shim inside oversized slit bars with a normal clamp on top. IHC uses a bolt through the fork and standard-diameter slit bars with a normal clamp. Most Envy completes ship IHC, NATIVE completes ship SCS, and most custom builds run SCS. Our clamp guide walks through all three with photos.

Our picks

  • Root Industries AIR SCS clamp. The value SCS in the shop and the one we fit to most builds. Standard and oversized bars both work with the right adaptor.
  • Root Industries double clamps. AIR, AIRLite and GT double clamps for HIC and IHC setups, in colours to match the Root completes.
  • Apex SCS Lite and SCS V3. Machined on the Gold Coast, light and bombproof, with HIC kits and conversion kits to match.
  • NATIVE Orca SL, Orca SCS and Orca XL. The NATIVE team's clamps for street, in standard and XL. First choice when they are in stock.
  • Envy Omen SCS and 2-bolt clamps. Direct replacements for Envy completes and the cheapest way into SCS.

Changing systems

Going from IHC to HIC or SCS is easy if the fork is a plain tube: an IHC to HIC conversion kit or an SCS clamp does it. Going the other way needs an IHC fork. If you are not sure what your fork is, send us a photo and we will tell you what to order.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SCS, HIC and IHC?

SCS is a tall clamp that replaces the top cap and takes slitless bars. HIC uses a shim and oversized slit bars. IHC uses a bolt through the fork and standard slit bars. SCS is the strongest and simplest, IHC is the lightest and what most completes come with.

Which clamp fits my bars?

Slitless bars need SCS. Oversized bars with a slit need HIC with a double or triple clamp. Standard bars with a slit need IHC with a double clamp. If your bars have no slit, SCS is your only option.

Do I need a 2, 3 or 4 bolt clamp?

More bolts spread the load and hold better. Double clamps are fine for most riders and lighter; triple and quad clamps suit heavy street riding. SCS clamps are usually four bolts.

Does an SCS clamp come with a compression bolt?

Yes. SCS clamps include the compression bolt and cap, because the clamp is the compression system. You will not need a separate top cap.

Can I convert my IHC scooter to SCS or HIC?

Often, but it depends on your fork. IHC to HIC is the easy one, with a conversion kit from the hardware page. Going to SCS may need a different fork. Send us a photo of your fork and clamp and we will tell you exactly what to order.

How fast do you ship clamps?

Clamps ship fast from our own stock. $10 in Australia, free on parts orders over $250 in Australia and New Zealand.
