Envy Scooter Size Guide: One, Colt and Prodigy by Age and Height

Envy is the biggest scooter brand in Australia, and its completes come in four sizes of rider. Get the size right and your kid will find it easier to ride and easier to learn tricks on.

Start with their age to get close, then check their height to be sure. Kids the same age can be very different sizes.

The quick answer

Age Scooter Rider height
7 to 10 One S3 120cm to 145cm
8 to 12 Colt S6 130cm to 155cm
9 to 13 Prodigy X One 135cm to 160cm
11 to 14 Prodigy X One Street 140cm to 165cm

If their age and their height point to different scooters, go with height.

The ten-second check

Stand the scooter next to your kid. The top of the bars should sit around their belly button, or just under. Once they stand on the deck they are 4 or 5cm higher, so the bars end up between their beltline and their belly button, which is where you want them.

So measure from the floor to their belly button and compare it with the scooter's height in the table below.

If the only thing wrong is the bars being a touch tall, ask us to cut them down after you place your order. We are happy to do it.

What Envy says, and why ours is a little different

Envy rates the One S3 for ages 5 to 9. Our ages run a little older because we size by the belly-button check. On a 5 or 6 year old the One's bars sit up near the chest. Kids can ride like that, but they do not have as much fun and it is not what we recommend.

If your kid is on the small side and has their heart set on one, order it and ask us to cut the bars down. We will do it before it ships.

Park scooters and street scooters

The One S3 and the Prodigy X One are park scooters, and Envy built the Colt S6 for a mix of park and street. Park riders like a smaller scooter because it is easier to throw around for tricks. Street riders spend their time grinding rails and jumping stairs, so they want to stand up more comfortably and run a bigger scooter, which is what the Prodigy X One Street is. If your kid rides street, our NATIVE size guide covers the Stem and Format too.

From about 15, riders usually have a good idea of what size they want.

Envy or Root?

They are sized the same. The Envy One S3 (78.5cm tall) sits between the Root Type R Mini and Type R Pro, the Colt S6 (84cm) between the Type R Pro and GT, and the Prodigy X One (86.5cm) matches the Type R GT. Pick on price, colour and the brand your kid likes. Our Root size guide has the Root side.

Envy TS Pro: a trainer, not a first scooter

Envy built the TS Pro for practising tricks in the backyard or on the trampoline, with 50mm and 100mm bar extenders so it grows with the rider. It comes in two sizes, the 6 (6" x 21.5" base, 650mm bars) and the 7.5 (7.5" x 24" base, 700mm bars). It is a trainer, so it is not in the sizing table above. For a first riding scooter, see the One S3.

Common questions

Is the Envy One good for a 6 year old?

Envy rates the One S3 from age 5. By our belly-button check it fits from about 120cm, and the average 6 year old is about 116cm, so the bars will sit up near their chest. They can ride it like that, but it is not what we recommend and they will not have as much fun. Ask us to cut the bars down after you order and we will do it.

What size Envy scooter for an 8 year old?

The average 8 year old is about 128cm, which is Envy One S3 size.

What size Envy scooter for a 10 year old?

The average 10 year old is about 139cm and fits both the One S3 and the Colt S6. The One is the smaller scooter and the better fit right now. The Colt gives them more room to grow.

What size Envy scooter for a 12 year old?

The average 12 year old is about 149cm and fits the Colt S6 and the Prodigy X One. The Prodigy is the step up for a rider who is already landing tricks.

Envy One or Envy Colt?

Size first: the One suits riders from about 120cm to 145cm and the Colt from about 130cm to 155cm. If they fit both, the One is the easier scooter to learn on and the Colt lasts longer.

Envy Prodigy or Root Type R?

They are the same size scooter. The Prodigy X One stands 86.5cm tall and the Root Type R GT 85cm; the Colt S6 at 84cm sits between the Root Type R Pro and GT. Pick on price, colour and which brand your kid likes. The sizing is within a couple of centimetres either way.

Where these sizes come from

The scooter measurements are Envy's own. The rider heights come from the belly-button check above, and the ages come from the growth charts Australian children's hospitals use, which give the average height of boys at every age. Girls track within a centimetre or two until about 13, then most level off around 163cm, so go by height.

They are averages. The tallest kids are a year or more ahead and the shortest are a year or more behind, so measure your kid before you order.

Still not sure? Send us their age and belly-button height and we will tell you which one to get.
